China’s BYD unveils Level-4 autonomous parking, promises full cover for losses

Chinese auto giant and world’s leading producer of new energy vehicles BYD has unveiled the latest L4-level autonomous driving feature for its trademarked God’s Eye advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS). With the launch, the company has also promised to cover any losses incurred during parking while the ADAS is deployed.

This update includes enhanced parking scenarios and introduces three-speed parking functionality, further improving user experience. Level 4 (L4) autonomy refers to a stage where the vehicle can perform all driving tasks independently without any driver input, as long as it operates within predefined conditions.

BYD emphasized its strong confidence in the capabilities of the God’s Eye ADAS by stating in a press release that the move reflects absolute trust in the technology. According to a recent Weibo post, the company plans to roll out an over-the-air update for its God’s Eye B and C systems in the near future.

BYD claims L4 autonomous parking feature meets global standards

BYD says its L4-level parking system meets global standards, allowing cars to park themselves without any driver assistance in specific situations. If anything goes wrong during these autonomous parking operations, BYD—not the driver—will be held responsible.

The Shenzhen-based automaker has committed to taking full liability for any safety issues or losses that may arise from using its God’s Eye-assisted parking software.

Furthermore, BYD will cover all repair costs, third-party property damage, and personal injury compensation resulting from malfunctions or algorithm errors in its parking assistance system, whenever the vehicle is found to be at fault in a legal proceeding.

BYD says that if a parking accident occurs, drivers can contact its service directly instead of filing an insurance claim, providing a key advantage of preventing any impact on next year’s premiums and avoiding the higher costs that would otherwise result from making a claim.

Upcoming God’s Eye update to boost parking, driving, and safety

In addition, BYD revealed plans to roll out the largest over-the-air update in its history for the God’s Eye system, promising improvements not only to parking but also to driving performance and overall safety. The automaker first launched its God’s Eye advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) in February 2025, aiming to democratise autonomous driving by making the technology available even on its most affordable models.

Last week, BYD announced that more than one million vehicles are now equipped with its God’s Eye advanced driver-assistance system. The company also noted that it is the first automaker to offer a guarantee for autonomous parking, introducing a new level of accountability for autonomous driving features.

As BYD continues to advance its God’s Eye technology and autonomous driving capabilities, the company’s strong position in the electric vehicle market remains evident. Last year, BYD sold around 3.84 million plug-in hybrids and pure EVs, capturing a 20% share of the global electric vehicle market and reinforcing its leadership.
